HISTORY

In 1959, Founder Chester Stranczek hauled his first load for a new company called Allied Tube and Conduit. The small company had been looking for someone reliable to deliver their steel. Chester had a couple of small businesses that he was involved in at the time and jumped at the opportunity to help.

Over the years, as Allied Tube and Conduit grew, so did Chester’s new trucking company. Allied Tube and Conduit was having difficulty with the delivery of their pipe to their customers at one point. Chester then invented what he called the “Kangaroo” a self unloading system. It is part forklift and part crane and rides on the trailer to offload steel at customer locations.

In 1966, he obtained interstate authority and began hauling freight across the country. He named his new company Cresco Lines from his home town of Crestwood, Illinois (Where he served as mayor for over 25 years). Over the last 50 years Cresco Lines has grown to be a leader in the steel industry. From humble beginnings to a transportation company with over 100 employees, 155 owner operators, and the company is still going strong. Chester has two sons that work for the company. Robert serves as President of the company, and Mike serves as the Chief Operating Officer.
